A model trained to spend additional computation working through a problem before answering, rather than responding in a single pass.
Where chain-of-thought had to be requested in the prompt, reasoning models internalise the behaviour: they deliberate by default, and quality improves with the compute spent thinking rather than only with model size. This shifts cost from training to inference, and makes response time a quality dial, a genuinely new trade-off in deployment.
The reasoning model takes 20 seconds but solves the proof.
