Pronounced ash-shabaka al-ʿaṣabiyyaPrimer

English

A neural network is a computing system loosely inspired by the brain, made of layers of connected nodes that adjust their connection strengths during training. It is the basic building block underneath nearly all modern AI models.

A neural network is a stack of simple numeric functions whose adjustable weights are tuned until the whole stack maps inputs to desired outputs. The biological name is a historical borrowing and a poor guide: these are not simulations of brains, and reasoning about them by analogy to neurons misleads more than it explains. What makes them useful is that a sufficiently large stack can approximate very complicated relationships without anyone specifying the rule.

The system is a neural network with four hidden layers.

Why this form: «العصبونية» is defensible and used in some academic Arabic; «العصبية» is the more widely read form.
