Rap Duo Member's Hit Single Flagged as Possibly AI-Made

"Rubberz," the synth-pop track from Shoreline Mafia's Fenix Flexin, is sitting at number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has racked up 7 million views on its music video. Now it is at the center of a dispute over whether it was made with generative AI.

The accusation came from producer Medasin, who said on Thursday that Flexin used an AI music app called Treblo to create the song. Treblo was known as Sonauto until just two days before "Rubberz" dropped in June, a rebrand that has fed suspicion rather than eased it.

Flexin has denied the claim outright. He says he freestyled the lyrics himself and leaned on auto-tune, reverb, and an affected UK accent, drawing on 1980s British synth-pop and Morrissey as influences rather than any AI tool. Purps on the Beat is credited as the track's producer.

The forensic picture is messy. Treblo's own built-in detector flagged songs from both Flexin and Tyga as likely AI-generated, which is notable given Treblo's evident stake in the controversy. Independent AI music detectors were less conclusive, putting the odds of AI involvement at just 20 to 30 percent.

The lyrics fared worse under scrutiny. Multiple AI-text detectors and Anthropic's Claude flagged the words to "Rubberz" as bearing the hallmarks of AI generation. Listeners have also pointed to audio artifacts in the track itself: backing vocals that fade in and out unnaturally, brittle hi-hats, chorus vocals with a compressed, low-bitrate quality, and reverb tails that cut off abruptly rather than decaying naturally.

Visual evidence adds another layer. The single's cover art, along with a social media post celebrating its chart success, were both flagged as AI-generated with over 97 percent confidence by multiple image detectors, a far higher certainty than any of the audio tools managed.

None of the detection tools involved agree closely enough to settle the question definitively.

That gap between the audio, lyric, and image findings is the real story here. It illustrates how unevenly today's AI-detection tools perform across different media types, and how a hit song's authenticity can become contested in public before anyone produces conclusive proof. Whether "Rubberz" was fully human-made, AI-assisted, or something in between remains unresolved, and Flexin's camp has not walked back its denial.
