AWS Brings Agentic AI Chatbot Amazon Quick to GovCloud

Amazon Web Services has extended its agentic AI assistant Amazon Quick into AWS GovCloud (US-West), giving federal agencies and government contractors access to the same task-automating chatbot already running in commercial regions, but under strict data isolation requirements.

All data processed through this deployment stays entirely within the GovCloud (US-West) Region. That matters for agencies bound by rules that prohibit sensitive workloads from touching standard commercial infrastructure.

Amazon Quick is pitched as more than a conversational search tool. AWS describes it as software that can turn a plain-language question into an executed action, aimed at helping teams move faster on decisions tied to their core mission.

With this release, government teams can build custom chat agents for specific workflows such as procurement, Authority to Operate (ATO) compliance reviews, and grants management. The service connects to Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and OneDrive through GCC High connectors, plus browser extensions, so agencies can plug Quick into document repositories they already use daily.

Built-in guardrails for regulated environments

Access control is handled through a feature AWS calls Spaces, which scopes information to a given program office or mission area under a least-privilege model. That is a meaningful detail for agencies where different program offices legally cannot see each other's data, even when hosted on the same cloud account.

The underlying GovCloud (US-West) Region carries a substantial compliance stack: FedRAMP Class D (the baseline formerly called High), DoD Impact Levels 4 and 5, ITAR, CJIS, and FIPS 140-3. Amazon Quick's agentic capabilities run inside this authorized, isolated environment, and enterprise governance controls are available from day one rather than arriving in a later update.

GovCloud itself is operated exclusively by U.S. citizens on U.S. soil, a longstanding structural requirement for hosting export-controlled and law-enforcement-sensitive data.

This GovCloud rollout brings the total footprint for Amazon Quick's agentic features to eight AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), three European Regions (Frankfurt, Ireland, London), two in Asia Pacific (Sydney, Tokyo), and now GovCloud (US-West).

For AWS, the move signals an effort to push its newer agentic AI products into the public sector as quickly as they mature commercially, rather than treating government compliance as an afterthought years into a product's life.
